Have you ever been sitting down with your family for dinner when all of a sudden a medium to loud crash occurs at one of your windows?  You may have noticed it was a bird thinking they could fly right through but no such luck.  Does it happen way too often? Do you want to reduce and eventually eliminate this from ever happening again?  Before I give you a few tips on how to stop this problem let’s take a brief look at the reason why birds collide with windows.

Unfortunately,  millions or even billions die each year due to this problem.  While many may think this is funny it is really disheartening to see our wildlife dying in such a manner.

What happens according to flap on flap.org is they see the reflection of trees in the windows, etc.  They never even see the glass because it is so transparent.  Here is some suggested tips from flap that may help reduce or eliminate birds colliding with your windows:

10 tips for windows

  1. Get CollidEscape for windows.  It is a film that adheres to your window and is very noticeable to birds and it’s economical.
  2. Use window films that offer artistic designs.
  3. Cover small to medium sized windows with a special netting.  That way if birds collide they will just bounce right off.
  4. White washing the windows will do the trick.  Though this may not be an attractive look, you can wash after migrating season.
  5. Apply a sunshade, this will reduce birds colliding with windows.
  6. Hang wind chimes, ribbons, or windsocks.
  7. Do not hang any birdfeeders near any windows.
  8. Consider the layout of your interior living space.  Windows facing each other will cause birds to collide.  Anything you decide to prevent this problem the better.
  9. Close blinds as much as possible.
  10. Hang hawk silouhettes in front of windows.
