File:Antique Persian Mashad rug.jpg Area rugs laid out nicely on stunning hardwood floor can be a nice accent to your home decor.   The only downside to area rugs is keeping them clean and free from odors especially around small children and pets.  Here are some helpful tips to help you keep your area rugs clean and on a daily basis:

First, you will want to prepare the area rug for cleaning by moving toys, furniture, etc., off of the rug.

  • Roll the rug up by starting at one end.
  • Move it to an area where it can be cleaned and dried without hindrances.
  • Vacuum all debris from the area rug.

Cleaning the rug

  • Buy a manual carpet cleaning solution such as Oxiclean Revitalizer.
  • Get your cleaning tools together such as: bucket of hot water, cleaning solution, brushes, and rag.
  • Spray the solution in rows along the area rug thoroughly covering the entire rug.  Be adviced that a little goes a long way.
  • Use brush in circular motion over entire rug.
  • Dip rag in hot water and wipe along area rug.  Wring it out and wipe in straight line.
  • Repeat spraying and wiping.

If you don’t want to clean the area rug manually, you can always purchase or rent a carpet cleaner and tends to be on the more expensive side.
